Breaking news (well, kinda)

Now that we've told our landlord, I feel free to finally mention that we are buying a house in the suburbs. Well, not the whole-hog suburbs, as Newark is in our back yard, but we won't be fulfilling our original plan to stay in Jersey City, as much as we've come to love it during our six years here. We tried hard to stay city-folk, but the bank account wasn't having any of it. So in March we will become homeowners in the lovely town (village?) of South Orange, NJ - not too far away from friends or work or church.

Leah will have a little back yard to dig around in, Rob will have a place to spread out all his gear, Amelia will be able to hunt all kinds of new animals through the windows, and we'll finally have a guest room that isn't filled with blinking electronics + a futon.

I suppose it will all be worth it, and everyone says it's the right thing to do, but I still have my doubts. Homeownership in the Jersey suburbs is far scarier to me than having a baby. But since I've never done it, I'm trying to keep an open mind. I guess I'll find out whether it really is more frightening soon enough...

Edited 1/27/08: It was, and is.
