Suburban Halloween
People take Halloween seriously in this town.
The South Orange Halloween Parade started in a small park in the middle of town, went down the main street, and ended up at the train station gazebo. Local merchants handed out treats to the kids, and prizes and toys + other treats were passed out as the sun slowly disappeared over the tracks.
Leah got a jelly-filled munchkin donut + bubbles. While we waited for her father to step off the train, she found cigarette butts + I taught her to throw them in the trash. Yuck. The girl is unstoppable (yes, of COURSE I tried not to let her touch them!)! Then we picked up some burritos at a new restaurant in town + headed home.
There we turned on our Halloween-y lights + stocked the candy bowl. And waited. All of 0.5 seconds. We went through something like 10 bags of candy, and had to turn out our cool-as-heck (obviously the picture doesn't do them justice) lights when we ran out at exactly 8:25pm.
Rob took the little butterfly out for some light neighborhood trick or treating, but mostly she enjoyed manning the door + watching the variety of costumes + the people they covered.
Now she + her dad + the cat are all snuggled into our bed, while I grab the last few minutes of the day to myself. Ahhh...
[No, she was not entirely thrilled in any of these pictures. She was happiest in those moments when she was running away from us + we thought it would be better to keep her out of the street rather than try to snap a blurry photo. All night she kept saying, "Down! Down!"]
