I've been saying that if (for some strange reason) I ever decided to have another child, I'd give birth at home. My first birth experience was pretty god-awful, and I am convinced that it would have been SO much better had I just stayed away from the horrible procedure-happy hospital.
After attending a screening of The Business of Being Born at the Jersey City Museum yesterday, I am certain that I'll never consider birthing in a hospital a good idea again (barring any real complications, of course). In fact, I'm more than a little sad that I didn't research my options more thoroughly 3+ years ago.
I know most people are skeptical of home birth, but studies show that it's just as safe (if not safer) for women + their babies. Sadly, hospitals + most OBs wouldn't want you to know that, as there's no profit in it for them.
Educate yourself!
