More sex ed stupidity

This is so sad. And it scares the crap out of me.

There's a section on this parent group's website that talks about the effectiveness of abstinence-only education (it's not), lists several reasons why their kids are too stupid to use a condom properly, and compares the dangers of smoking + drugs to the dangers of safe sex. Where is the information about their county having the 2nd highest teen pregnancy rate in the state?

When working at the tiny Planned Parenthood office in college, I remember 2 girls who attended the local Catholic school who came in for pregnancy tests, not understanding exactly how they could get pregnant. And most likely not understanding what sex is, or what it's for (not just for procreating, people!).

Education = knowledge. Knowledge gives us the ability to actually make good choices. Why is opinion the new fact??

I have no desire for Leah to have sex before she's ready, and I certainly don't want her to make choices based on fear + incorrect information. I didn't have access to comprehensive sex education until college (the
one-week overviews in 5th + 9th grade hardly count), which is ridiculously late. Our thoughts + opinions about sex are formed much earlier, obviously. I don't want my daughter to have the same guilt + fear surrounding sex that I did.
