34

I sometimes get hung up on posts like this - that I feel I "should" do. When the moment passes, many times I have no desire to write it down. But yes, I turned 34 this week. Which feels pretty young to me now, despite my memories of freaking out about aging in my earlier years (silly girl). It's been a good year, and I think this one will be even better.

In honor of the year ahead, I post a fabulous letter from my young brother (who just turned 21, and has a much better vocabulary than I). I love his honesty and big words.

July 31, 2008

Dear Sarah,

Please accept my belated greetings of happy 33rd birthday -- I understand that the absurdity and heinous neglect that is involved in my having waited nearly a full year to lapse before acknowledging your advancement in age. It brings me grief and embarrassment to admit that a series of "Today I'm enlarging Sarah's photograph" instances have occurred and recurred consistently throughout the past year without the necessary "umph" to actually carry out my intentions. I assure you my belated birthday wishes to you are indicative of my own inadequate, though improving, capacity for punctuality and organization, and not indicative of a paucity of my love for you. Happy Birthday, Sarah! I love you and look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Dave

34 may be too young to remember Gilligan's Island (!) but your brother writes like the Professor talked on that show!

So you made it through your Jesus year - happy 34th!

Thanks! I've never heard of "Jesus year" before... interesting. And nope, not too young for Gilligan's Island - used to love that show. :)

supposed to be a watershed year.
Just think - you also have your "Elvis year" ahead of you!
