I cannot BELIEVE how quickly time has flown! Six months ago tonight, Leah was born. To celebrate, I got tired. Not quite as exhausted as I was the evening she was born, but I am pretty wiped at the moment. In fact, I had to turn off the TV because I was too tired to follow anything. But HEY - my baby's SIX MONTHS OLD! I think it's pretty impressive that she's made it this far without her parents doing anything too stupid. To her. Rob has commented that pretty soon she'll be 20. I choose to ignore his strange logic.
Here she is two mornings ago, just before her first taste of rice cereal. (She didn't love it, but she did accept a few spoonfuls, accompanied by lemon faces.) I have some great camera-video of the event, but I can't get it to load right now. I'll try again later when I wake up. Hopefully that won't be when she's 20.
Update (12/10/05): The video finally loaded on the free hosting site. Enjoy!

Thankful
I have so many things to be thankful for this year. I usually have a pretty good surplus, but this year I feel exceptionally blessed to be Leah's mom.
Here she is, watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade. (I was thankful that I was not where the parade was taking place - just a few blocks from where I work.)
And here we are at Rob's grandparents' house. We were fortunate to spend the day with them, his parents, and his Aunt Marya + Uncle George. Oh, and we were also fortunate to spend some time with some mighty fine food!
Mmmm...
We spent the rest of the gloriously extra-long weekend at home, and tonight we ventured out sans baby (who was tucked away with Rob's parents) for dinner + a movie. It was good to get out on our own; it felt like getting more breathing room, but we ran out of intelligent things to say.
Rob: "What do you think about the war in Iraq?"
Me: "I think I'm drunk." (After having had 2 sips of my light beer.)
Here are some more cute pictures. I couldn't decide which one was cuter. You decide.

Surprise party guest
Last weekend Leah attended her first surprise party - in Massachusetts, for my Mom's 60th. Leah was a big hit, the birthday girl was surprised, and a grand time was had by all!
It was so nice to be with my family again! I love living near NYC, but sometimes it's a real drag not to be able to see everyone I love on a somewhat regular basis.
* Note the burgeoning belly on my sister Emily!

New stuff
I was so distracted by the teething complaints from Leah that I forgot to update with her other new developments!
She is, of course, ever more observant and aware of her surroundings. She turns her whole body to see things, and is always moving, trying to get to whatever seems interesting. Even though she can't crawl, she can still move an awful lot, and seems to get places by inching her way across surfaces or lurching herself forward.
When she wants to get "up!" she raises her arms at my prompting. This is funny when she's also attempting sit-ups.
While she doesn't really show many signs of separation anxiety, I can tell that she prefers people who are calm over those who are loud and make sudden movements.
And although she is now a crazy wiggle-worm who doesn't want to be put down often, she has also begun snuggling into my shoulder, which is oh-so-nice.

Tooth demon
The poor girl is in the throes of teething. This is new to her, and highly unacceptable, as evidenced by the serious bouts of kvetching that have been going on. The only thing that makes her happy is being in-arms, which is nice, but hard to accommodate when there is work to be done!
More from the weekend:
Fun in bed on Saturday morning (coffee for the parents - not pictured because they are not as cute when they wake up - and teething toy for the bean)
Learning to pet Amelia without pulling her tail off
We meant to go pick out Leah's 1st fall pumpkin, but the day got ahead of us. So we visited her Dahlay (Rob's mom) at her bridal salon instead.
The next day Leah finally picked out her pumpkin!
We tracked down what looked like a great farm/orchard online, complete with hay rides + a petting zoo, but when we arrived it was little more than a roadside stand. Behind the counter was a bleach-blonde lady with long sparkly maroon fingernails and pictures of the cast of The Sopranos. We are in New Joisey, after all...

She finally gets the whole peek-a-boo concept! How exciting. Here she is, in a poor-quality video by yours truly:

Observant girl
Leah has a quiet, intense focus that even other people are starting to notice. She loves to be engaged with other people and interesting objects, and is beginning to like books - turning pages and staring at the pictures.
Whether this means she wants to eat them or learn something from them, only time will tell...
